KUU Workshop on Caribbean Marine Biodiversity
Goals:
- Integrate researchers in marine biodiversity of the Caribbean region
- Consolidate available information on marine biodiversity in the region
- Learn and exchange ideas about national and regional plans, priorities and conservation policies: explore the opportunities for regional and international cooperation in new developing projects related to marine biodiversity
- Create a regional committee to support CoML
Participants:
Scientists and academics from Bermuda, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Mexico, Panama, Puerto Rico and Venezuela.
Research programs and institutions: CARICOMP (Caribbean Coastal Marine Productivity), STRI (Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute), FishBASE, the Harte Research Institute (Gulf of Mexico studies) and IOCaribe (Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission – Caribbean)
Conservation agencies and potential partners: CI (Conservation International), TNC (The Nature Conservancy), Petróleos de Venezuela (PDVSA), Chevron Texaco and Conoco Phillips
